Rust? No worries

Week 2: The rust spots on the car are being treated and patched up
Rust. Every cars enemy. Thankfully Toyota's are built to last, there is not too much rust on Rumble Bee.
First i identified the most critical rust spots that needed fixing. The bonnet, doors. lower bumper area and rear boot.

Since the boot rubber section is rotten, i've to get that section, cut out, re-fabricated and welded. I'll do that once i finish the other sections by the end of this month.

The most important part of rust repair is surface preparation, make sure you get all the lose bits of paint and rust off before sanding. I then used various grits of sandpaper to get as close as i could to the bare metal.

After cleaning the surface, i applied a rust inhibitor solution, it's a 2-in-1 which stops rust and gets rid of remaining surface rust. I then applied some primer and filler.

From Top L-R: Bonnet almost done, lower door sill being treated with inhibitor, drivers door treated and sanded, rear boot rot, rear passengers door treated and sanded

Once that was dry i dry and wet sanded the bitch. Honestly it's really tiring because it was all done by hand.
I think it needs a few more rounds of sanding, but i had to stop since i started at breakfast and it was time for dinner.

I will catalogue the list of repairs/mods needed in the next post.
